Olokuta Rocks of Ado Ekiti- A Goldmine Wrapped in a Garbage Sheet

“Òkúta gbé òkúta lérí”

Strolling along the Okeyinmi street of Ado town, one is suddenly captured by a dramatic and hypnotizing assemblage of massive rocks. The most enigmatic of the rock formations is also the most conspicuous from the streets;  the others can be spotted pilling elusively behind it. The locals describe the myterious pose of the rocks as “Òkúta gbé òkúta lérí”, meaning “A rock that carries another rock on its head”.

It is a beautiful and awe-inspiring pose of rocks with a big rock boulder taking the form of a dog’s head (eyes closed), dramatically balanced on another massive block of rock with a relatively flat top. The others pilling behind, also take beautiful forms which also constitute a great visual pull for any passer-by on Okeyinmi Street.

Despite the wonderous potentils locked up in Olokuta rocks, the site had been turned into public laterine cum refuse dump for years.

We call on the state govenment of Ekiti as well as private individuals and keen minds who seek viable investment opportunities, to savage what is left of this great potential and transform it into a sustainable income-spinner for the State and its people.

We stand up for Naija tourism, we speak up for Olokuta Rocks!
