Thanks to God, and thanks to you also, for your encouragements and support on last year’s Naijatreks Young Writers’ Contest. The winners will soon embark on a trip to the gigantic hills and picturesque caves of Idanre in Ondo State.
Another opportunity has opened up to touch the lives of children in a small community in the Niger Delta, called Ekinama, Akukutoru L.G.A. of River State. Ekinama Island has a moribund primary school where the village children occasionally hold classes taught by a pastor who is resident on the island.
The contest has been slated for thursday, 26th Jan, 2012 at the field of the village primary school. It was also agreed that a more visual activity such as a drawing contest will probably be more suitable for the children judging by their level of education; nevertheless, we will allow anyone of the children who wishes to write to express his/herself thereby.
Apart from gifts of branded school bags and toys, all participants shall be given a copy of the Naijatreks paint book which we named “My Niger Delta Paint Book”.
My Niger Delta Paint Book, an initiative of Ntreks Tourism and O’ Studiolabs Uk, aims to awaken the consciousness of the rural children of Niger Delta to the beautiful riverine environment surrounding them.
